EC Declaration of Conformity: What It Contains and How to Use It

2026.08.25

What Is the EC Declaration of Conformity?

The EC Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is a formal document in which the manufacturer declares that a product complies with the relevant EU directives and standards. Unlike a test certificate, the DoC is a signed statement — but it must reference valid test data and applicable standards to be meaningful.

The Key Elements of a Declaration of Conformity

A complete DoC typically contains the following sections:

1. Manufacturer and Product Information

  • Manufacturer: The legal name of the manufacturer (for example, Zhongshan Maibosi Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.)
  • Product Name: The product type (for example, pyramid gas stove)
  • Model Number: The specific model (for example, MS-PH680-SS)
  • Classification: The test or certification reference number

2. Conformity Assessment Details

  • Conformity Assessment Route: The applicable standard, such as EN 14543:2017
  • Appliances Type: The appliance category
  • Directives: The EU directives the product complies with
  • Standard Applied: The list of standards with documented evidence of compliance

3. Notified Body Information

When a third-party body is involved, the DoC references it:

  • Notified Body: The accredited body that assessed conformity (for example, Intertek Italia S.p.A.)
  • Identification Number: The body unique reference
  • Certificate Expiry Date: The validity period of the underlying certificate

4. Declaration and Signature

  • Start of CE Marking: The date the CE marking began
  • Place and Date of Issue
  • Signature, Name, and Position: The authorized signatory

Why This Matters for Importers

As an importer, you should verify that your supplier can provide a DoC that references a valid standard and, where applicable, a legitimate notified body. A DoC without underlying test data — or with a fabricated notified body reference — offers no real protection and can cause customs rejection or platform delisting.

YWHOLA helps buyers verify supplier documentation, confirm notified body validity, and ensure the DoC matches the product and market. Contact us to review your compliance documents.
